Those of us who are animal lovers know how much our furry friends bring to our life. I’m down in the dumps today because my dear sweet Kitty has gone on to wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge. She was with us for seven years. Best we can tell, she was either poisoned or bitten by a snake. My DH had to break the news to me when I got home from Springtime Tallahassee late Saturday night. So I just wanted to take a minute here to thank her for all the joy she brought into my life. She was a “campus kitty” I adopted, one of a litter of cats born to one of our campus cats the maintenance guys took care of. She loved to play with the girls and would let them carry her around all they wanted to and take long naps with them when all three were finally worn out. At times, I think she thought she was a dog because she loved water. She’d take every opportunity to hop in the shower after I got out and roll around on the wet tile floor. She even jumped into the bathtub with me a couple times…batting at bubbles yet unfazed by the water swirling around her. She chased balls, she chased invisible pink elephants, she made biscuits on my tummy, and she'd carry on long conversations with me like we both completely understood what each other was saying. She never failed to make me smile. Thank you, sweet Kitty. I miss you, my little adventure cat.
The Rainbow Bridge...
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, she goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail are young again, and the ill are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent, and her eager body quivers. Her nose twitches, and her ears are up. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. Her happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress her beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
