Best Shot Monday: Meet Abby!

Abby_A1077347

Sometimes the best dogs end up waiting the longest times for their forever families. Meet Abby. This super sweet girl has been waiting for her forever family since early October. And I can't figure out why. She's a little older, about seven, but other than that (which is certainly not a bad thing!), she's the perfect dog! She's pretty mellow and easy going, not too big, not too small, walks well on her leash, loves to sit for treats, and as you can see from the picture below, sits up to play peek-a-boo! Next time you are considering adding a new four-legged friend to your family, first, be sure to visit your local shelter, and then second, consider an older dog. While puppies are super cute, they are also super time consuming when it comes to training .... and eating your shoes. Older dogs like Abby have already gone through that phase and come out the other side! Abby is available for adoption at Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services.

I'm a member of an organization called HeARTs Speak. It's a global group of artists and photographers who donate their time and talent to helping shelter pets find homes. Recently journalist Scott Smith wrote a beautiful piece about the work of HeARTs Speak and its thousands of artists in Consumer Advocate. It's a great look at what this wonderful organization does. Go take a peek here. And thanks to Scott for writing such a beautiful piece!

Best Shot Monday and 365 Somethings Project

Billy_A1078891

Happy New Year! I hope this January 1, 2018, finds you in good spirits and ready to roll into this new year with hope and excitement. We've been home in Jacksonville for the Christmas holidays, so I spent this first morning of 2018 at the shelter. It was darn cold, wet, and windy, but we suffered through for a couple hours! This sweet fella here is Billy. He's a bit frustrated in his kennel (and again, wouldn't you be?), but take him outside to enjoy the fresh air and play a bit and he's loads of fun. He was the best fetcher of the week! He's available for adoption at Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services.

I've been seeing so many "new year" projects come across my Facebook and Instagram feeds and even into my email inbox from my artsy friends. I know that I need to do something to get my creativity back on track in a more manageable fashion, and the email I received from Hanna describing her 365 Somethings Project stuck with me. I've been thinking about it for a few days, and her words really rang true for me. I know I can't commit to making time and space in my head and schedule to create something every single day. But I think I can commit to creating seven somethings a week, not necessarily every day.  I also know I have the attention span of a gnat, so I won't even begin to say what those somethings will be as I envision it will be a variety of somethings, rather than the same somethings. Make sense? For example, while I first felt like I haven't done anything creative while we've been home for the break, when I thought about it, I've certainly been creating photographs. Billy and his nearly 30 friends I've photographed for the shelter this week and last are proof of that! And while binge watching The Hunger Games movies with the Daily Dose of Awesomeness yesterday, I picked up a cross-stitch project I've been working on since, um, 2012. But hey, I'm almost done with it now! So thanks, Hanna, for the inspiration. I will be joining you for your 365 Somethings Project, and I will be doing my level best to post my somethings weekly, most on Instagram here and here.  If you'd like to join in, pop over to see Hanna and join me!

Best Shot Monday: Merry Christmas 2017

Christmas 2017

Merry Christmas to you and yours from us. The photo above was taken by one of my Chi Omega mentees, sweet Mackenzie Bowlin. We love it! As per tradition, we spent Christmas morning hitting Big Talbot Island's Blackrock Trail to Boneyard Beach. We had to go super early this morning to catch the tides right and lucked into a beautiful sunrise. That sunbeam was magically captured by my cell phone camera!

We hope the holidays have been and continue to be joyful for you and bring you blessings for a wonderful new year.

2017 Documented Life Project: May

May-1

Hello!  Yes, it's November!  Been a crazy month around here with tons of work travel.  Just popping in for a quick share of May for my 2017 Documented Life Project! First week, our FCSAA State Baseball Tournament!

May-3

The second week of May brought Mother's Day and Sarah's last concert as a Deerlake Middle School band member. As you can see, she was not happy. She loves her band fam!

May-4

The girlies made me a chocolate cake for Mother's Day. And the hubby gave me a very cool apple green Kitchen Aid mixer! I've named her Hazel.

May-5
The next week brought us the girls 8th grade commencement ceremony. Apparently having a commencement ceremony at the end of each school level is a thing now!  The only ones I had were high school and college!

May-6

The fourth week of May brought our wedding anniversary. Twenty 22 years this year!  Our very first date was a Jacksonville Suns game, so we always find a way to go to a Suns game around our anniversary ... even though their name was changed this year to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Sadly, I kid you not...

May-8

Thanks to the ladies at Art to the 5th for creating this project.  To see more of my 2017 DLP project, click here. For 2016, click here; for 2015, click here; and for 2014, click here.   Thanks for stopping in!
